Elura™(capromorelin oral solution) for Cats

Elura is the first ghrelin receptor agonist to be approved for use in cats to address weight loss in cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The flavored, oral solution is safe to use daily and approved for long-term use to help cats with CKD gain and maintain weight. 

Elura is indicated for the management of weight loss in cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD). 

Administer Elura orally at a dose of 2 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb) or 0.1 mL/kg (0.045 mL/lb) body weight once daily.  

To administer Elura, withdraw the appropriate amount of solution using the provided syringe and administer directly into your cat’s mouth. Rinse the syringe between treatment doses. 

Elura should be administered directly into your cat’s mouth. Food should be offered 30 minutes after dosing. Mixing Elura with food has not been evaluated. If your cat will not allow oral dosing, discuss dosing strategies with your veterinarian. 

Many cats are free-fed. If your cat is routinely fed meals, Elura should be offered on an empty stomach. Food should be offered 30 minutes after administering the dose.

Chronic kidney disease leads to ongoing, progressive weight loss, and therefore Elura is intended for long-term use and should be dosed daily. 

Elura doses should be given approximately 24 hours apart. If your cat is routinely fed meals, offer food 30 minutes after dosing. 

There is no contraindication to using Elura in cats with food allergies. However, you should discuss this with your veterinarian if you are concerned about whether your cat is able to tolerate Elura.
